Geneva is the closest airport, just an hour from the chalet depending on traffic and the weather. Lyon, Chambery and Grenoble are approximately 2 hours. It is possible to hire a car at all airports. We offer complimentary transfers as above.
We highly recommend reserving your airport transfers as far in advance as possible. We recommend the following companies:
Many people opt to drive to the Alps, especially now as it may be a safer way to travel in the Covid pandemic. You are also not subject to baggage restrictions. It takes approximately 10 hours from Calais with stops, tolls are approximately €70 each way and fuel is approximately €110 each way.
Please ensure your car has been prepared for winter driving with appropriate antifreeze, windscreen wash, headlamp beam deflector stickers and an EU driver pack (spare light bulbs, first aid kit, warning triangle and high viz vest). A UK sticker is required unless shown on your number plate. You must also carry snow chains. You will need to have your valid MOT, insurance and V5 ownership certificates and passport at all times. You do not need an International Driving Permit, unless you have an old style paper Driving Licence, however you may need to carry a Green Card from your insurers. There is uncovered parking at the chalet for 5 cars. We will send you directions should you be driving or hiring a car from an airport.
Travelling by train to the Alps may be the most civilised, stress-free and more sustainable way to travel. Boarding the Eurostar at London St. Pancras around 9am, you would change stations in Paris (Paris-Nord to Paris-Lyon via the Metro) and take a TGV to Bellegarde. From there you would board a local train to Cluses, arriving in Cluses around 7pm, a half hour transfer to the chalet.
